Bobcat Ballpark Capacity: 2,500 Date Opened: March 3, 2009 Miles Traveled: 103 miles round trip Bobcat Ballpark FeaturesBobcat Ballpark was built in 2009 and sits 2,000 Bobcat fans. Down both the right and left field line it is 330 feet and center field is 404 feet.
The seating area has two different seating options for fans, general admission and reserved seating. The reserved seating features green chairback seats. These seats can be found in all of section e, first two rows of sections a, b, j, h and first three rows of c, d, f and g. These General admission seats are bench metal seating with backs. General admission seating can found above the reserved seating in each section except for section E. In section H they have the K zone where the Diamond Sweethearts hangs Ks on the fence. Some of the seats are covered by the overhanging roof. Bobcat Ballpark has five suites total. Four of the suites are in the main grandstand. The four suites can hold up to 12 fans and have outdoor seating for each fan. The seats are the same as the chairbacks in the reserved seating sections. Two suites can be found on each side of the press box which sits up, behind home plate. The fifth suite is a caboose that is placed down the first base line. The caboose is called the Bobcat Express. The Bobcat Express sits on tracks and is painted Maroon and Gold. The suite made its debut in 2012. A nice patio sits in front of the suite. Other than the suite down the first baseline they have the visitor bullpen which sits in foul territory. Fans can also catch the action by standing and watching the game down the wall. The left field line has the Bobcats bullpen which is out of play. Many fans gather to watch the game along the wall next to the dugout and pen. The covered batting cages are also located here. The concourse has a concession stand, women's and men's restrooms. The entrance leads you to a guest services tent, a children's play area and a grassy plaza with trees. On the outside of the stadium you will find a ticket booth with a Texas State Star in brick in front of it. On the front of the stadium you will see Texas State in brick with the Texas State Star in between Texas and State. |

Bobcat Ballpark Overview
Bobcat Ballpark: This is a solid ballpark. The ballpark is very clean. The concourse flows well and connects you to any point in the ballpark. Having five suites at the ballpark is great. The Caboose Suite is awesome. At first, I didn't understand why they would put a caboose at the ballpark. After about two innings you'll realize a lot of trains run by the ballpark. A lot of programs would like to have this ballpark, Texas State fans be proud of your stadium.
A few things I'd like to see in the ballpark. Add some posters of Bobcat players both from the past and current. Add a place to put the starting lineups for both teams and Sun Belt standings on the concourse near the concession stand. A deck in the outfield would be a nice addition to give fans a different vantage point. The green seats are fine, but I'd rather see Maroon seats to go with the team colors.
Texas State Campus: Texas State's campus will leave an impression. This is the best landscaped campus I've seen to date. Every direction you turn you see something that captures your eye. From the San Marcos River to Old Main this campus will keep your attention. The campus at points seems to constantly be climbing higher and higher providing you with views where you can see for miles.
The athletic facilities are found near each other with Bobcat Ballpark, Bobcat Stadium, Bobcat Softball Stadium, Strahan Coliseum and Track & Field Stadium are all found on the other side of Aquarena Springs Road. Most of the campus is found on the opposing side as well as the Tennis and Soccer venues.
Near Strahan Coliseum you will find Sewell Park on the Texas State campus. The park has the San Marcos River running through it. The water is very clear and you can see the bottom of the river. The river has an endangered species, Texas Wild Rice, that is only found in the San Marcos River. Students can be found hanging out in the park and tubing down the river. Across from Sewell Park you will see Theatre Center. The building is referred to as the "Red Drum" and is built on top of the water. In the area you will see several bridges crossing over the water. Head up the hill from here to see Old Main. Old Main is Texas State's oldest building. The red roof and great architecture make it one of the best buildings on campus. From Old Main, take in the The Quad. The Quad is lined with trees, with bushes found in the center as you walk down the stairs leading to the Lyndon B. Johnson Statue. Lyndon B. Johnson is the only president to graduate from a Texas University. The Student Center is named after the former President. After The Quad you will head straight into the Library. The library may not be the best looks wise, but it is located in the center of campus which is great. As you pass through the library you will head towards a bridge crossing over N Comanche St. You'll see more, well landscaped walkways and several different paths leading to the bridge. From here you can see the Presidents House, Rec Center and Glade Outdoor Theater. The Texas State Water Tower can be seen during the walk as well.
Other things to see on campus. The Bobcat Statue by the Psychology and Taylor Murphy Building. Near the quad you will see Memorial Garden. You can find the Victory Star on top of Jackson Hall. Jackson Hall is the tallest building on the campus.
Atmosphere: Considering the weather, I was happy to see a good amount of fans. The weather was not ideal for baseball. A light rain was consistent throughout the game, with a chill in the air and a strong wind. Texas State baseball has a good fan base and it continues to grow. I enjoyed the Eat 'Em Up Cats chant.
Scoreboard: The scoreboard features two videoboards, the larger one at the top, smaller on the bottom. The line score is featured between the videoboards. The scoreboard at Bobcat Ballpark is solid.
San Marcos: San Marcos also known as "San Marvelous" is home to over 44,000 people. The city has plenty of things to do from outdoor activities to shopping.
Looking for something to do outside? Take a ride on the Glass Bottom Boat! Located on the Texas State campus, you can take the tour for $9 for an adult, seniors $7.50, $6 for children 4-13 and children under three are free.
Take an hour long ride down the San Marcos River on a tube! The San Marcos Lions Club rents out tubes for $10 and is open on the weekends in May. During the months of June, July and August it is open every day from 10 am to 7 pm.
If shopping is your thing, San Marcos is your place. Two outlet malls are side by side with over 240 shops! The two outlet malls are Tanger Outlets and San Marcos Outlets.
The Square is the main attraction in the downtown, with plenty of shops and restaurants in the area.
If you're looking to grab a bite to eat check out Alvin Ord's. This is where I went on my visit and if you like deli sandwiches you can't pass this place up. Try the Salvation sandwich and thank me later. If you're looking for burritos, try Zookas Ultimate Burrito and support a local restaurant. For the pizza lovers Valentino's was recommended to me. For the best beer selection in San Marcos check out the Tap Room.
You can also find several things to do just outside of the city. Lockhart, the heart of Texas BBQ is about 20 minutes away. One of the best water parks in the world, Schiltterbahn is located down 35 in New Braunfels. Up 35 you will find Austin about 30 minutes away.
