Busch Stadium Overview
Busch Stadium: The ballpark is a major upgrade from Busch two. Busch three gives you all the amenities and upgrades a fan could want. I love the exterior the brick is a perfect color and it carries throughout the ballpark. Without having a currently having a museum Busch Stadium does a nice job throwing in touches of Cardinal history. Really enjoyed all the Busch two items on the concourse. Having the seats team colors is a great touch. Great stadium location providing fans with a stadium backdrop with the Arch. The concourse provides plenty of space and didn't feel too cramped.
Some negatives on Busch. The stadium design was pretty basic with not much flair. The scoreboards are great, but having two in the same location doesn't make sense. The only reason I can come up with on why they have both there, is to maintain a clear view of the Old courthouse, maybe. The concourse seemed a bit dark when the sun went down.
Saint Louis: Located in Missouri on the Mississippi River sits, Saint Louis. There's plenty to do in the city and here are a few things I was able to do on my trip.
Check out Washington Avenue for nightlife. Plenty of restaurants and entertainment to keep you busy. The street is lined with buildings dating back to the 1920's and has stringed lights hanging above the street. My wife and I dined at Rosarita's and both had tacos. The meat was well seasoned, but the cheese wasn't your traditional Mexican cheese.
The Budweiser Brewery is just a few miles from the center of downtown. The tour is free and runs seven days a week. You'll get too see the famed Clydesdales, the historic brewery, and all of its main features in an hour long tour. The hour long tour is topped off with two free beers. You have a choice of 12 different beers.
Looking for good BBQ? Look no further than Pappy's Smokehouse. Pappy's has quickly become the place to go in Saint Louis after opening in 2009. This is a place that both locals and celebrities love. Try the Frito Pie, it includes fritos, your choice of meat, baked beans, cheese, and onions. Hard to top that combo.
What's a trip to Saint Louis without walking up to the Gateway Arch. The Arch sits 630 feet tall and equally as wide. It opened to the public in 1967. It is also the tallest monument in the United States. The cool thing about the Arch is you can always find a view of it while walking through the city. A must see in Saint Louis, kind of hard to miss it though.
Just up the road from the arch sits the Old Courthouse. The Old Courthouse is the home of the Dred and Harriet Scott's case as they perused their freedom. If you're a history buff you will love this.
We stopped into the Union Station which once was one the largest train stations in the world and now is a hotel and shopping mall. If you love architecture this is a great place to check out. Had breakfast at the Station Grille, you have to get the buffet.
A few things that I didn't get to see that I would have liked to are, City Museum, Cathedral Basilica, and Saint Louis Zoo. I heard great things about The Fountain and Ted Drewes as well.
One project I'm excited about in Saint Louis is the Saint Louis Ballpark Village. The project will give Cardinal fans a nearby gathering ground before and after games. The mixed-use project will come in several phases. The first one will feature a Cardinals Museum and restaurant, live plaza, and Budweiser Brewhouse. Several of the buildings will provide rooftop seating and standing room too see into Busch Stadium. This will be a fantastic addition to the city of Saint Louis.
Scoreboard: Two nice sized boards in right field with LED ribbon banners throughout. The scoreboards are nice and serve their purpose, but in this day in age Busch Stadiums scoreboards aren't going to wow you. If you go with a two board approach, one in left center and one in right center wouldn't be a bad idea.
Atmosphere: Saint Louis is a baseball town through and through and it's easy to see why. The fans pack the stadium year after year and have been in the top ten in attendance every year since Busch Stadium opened in 2006. Of course having attended a NL Central clinching game helps for a nice atmosphere, but with an average of over 40,000 fans a game you are in for a solid baseball atmosphere most nights.
