Bobcat Stadium Capacity: 30,000 Date Opened: 1981 Miles traveled: 100 miles roundtrip Bobcat Stadium FeaturesBobcat Stadium was built in 1981. Renovations in 2011-12 bring the stadium to its current capacity, 30,000 seats. The field is named after former AD and Coach, Jim Wacker.
The South end Zone Complex which houses coaching offices, meeting rooms and training center is the focal point of the end zone. Two scoreboards bookend the End Zone Complex. In the southwest corner of the stadium they have added the Bobcat Pavilion. The pavilion allows Bobcat Club and "T" association members to meet before the game and at half time. The 3,200 square foot facility has indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of TV screens. The west side of the stadium features the West Side Complex. This stadium addition gave Bobcat Stadium 15 suites and 450 club seats. The west side of the stadium is the start of the horseshoe seating with two levels of seating. In the north end zone you will see 13,500 seats. The Strutters Gallery is located here as well. The gallery shows all the great accomplishments of the famed Texas State dance team. The Fan Shop is also located in the north end zone. The student section and band are located in the north end zone. The east side of the stadium completes the horseshoe with two levels of seating. Some of the student seating is located on the east side in sections 119-120. One concourse connects both the upper and lower level seating throughout the stadium. The concourse has several concession stands and restrooms. The outside of the stadium features Bobcat Courtyard, which provides fan entertainment during game days. The courtyard has several trees and a large Texas State logo on the ground. The exterior stadium design on the features columned archways. |

Bobcat Stadium Overvoew
Bobcat Stadium: The renovations that were made in the past five years really take the stadium to another level. With out those the stadium would be pretty bland. The outside of the stadium looks great and the arched columns are a nice touch. The addition of the Bobcat Pavilion gives that corner of the stadium life. The stadium is well maintained and cleaned. As of today I'm not sure Texas State could add much more to the stadium. Let the current state of Bobcat Stadium stand for awhile and see if the fan base continues to build. The school has done a great job transforming the stadium from FCS caliber to FBS.
Texas State Campus: Texas State's campus will leave an impression. This is the best landscaped campus I've seen to date. Every direction you turn you see something that captures your eye. From the San Marcos River to Old Main this campus will keep your attention. The campus at points seems to constantly be climbing higher and higher providing you with views where you can see for miles.
The athletic facilities are found near each other with Bobcat Ballpark, Bobcat Stadium, Bobcat Softball Stadium, Strahan Coliseum and Track & Field Stadium are all found on the other side of Aquarena Springs Road. Most of the campus is found on the opposing side as well as the Tennis and Soccer venues.
Near Strahan Coliseum you will find Sewell Park on the Texas State campus. The park has the San Marcos River running through it. The water is very clear and you can see the bottom of the river. The river has an endangered species, Texas Wild Rice, that is only found in the San Marcos River. Students can be found hanging out in the park and tubing down the river. Across from Sewell Park you will see Theater Center. The building is referred to as the "Red Drum" and is built on top of the water. In the area you will see several bridges crossing over the water. Head up the hill from here to see Old Main. Old Main is Texas State's oldest building. The red roof and great architecture make it one of the best buildings on campus. From Old Main, take in the The Quad. The Quad is lined with trees, with bushes found in the center as you walk down the stairs leading to the Lyndon B. Johnson Statue. Lyndon B. Johnson is the only president to graduate from a Texas University. The Student Center is named after the former President. After The Quad you will head straight into the Library. The library may not be the best looks wise, but it is located in the center of campus which is great. As you pass through the library you will head towards a bridge crossing over N Comanche St. You'll see more, well landscaped walkways and several different paths leading to the bridge. From here you can see the Presidents House, Rec Center and Glade Outdoor Theater. The Texas State Water Tower can be seen during the walk as well.
Other things to see on campus. The Bobcat Statue by the Psychology and Taylor Murphy Building. Near the quad you will see Memorial Garden. You can find the Victory Star on top of Jackson Hall. Jackson Hall is the tallest building on the campus.
Scoreboard: The two scoreboards located in the south end zone are a decent size but in the arms race of college football scoreboards they don't stand a chance. The best spot for another scoreboard will be in the north end zone at the top of the stands. The stadium could upgrade the sound system which didn't project well throughout the whole stadium. The ribbon scoreboards are a great addition to the stadium.
Atmosphere: The vibe outside the stadium was party, party, party. It was live. The students had a great turnout, sadly, the game wasn't entertaining enough to keep them around after halftime. The "Strutters" were cool to watch at half, I would recommend staying in the stands for that.
San Marcos, TX: San Marcos also known as "San Marvelous" is home to over 44,000 people. The city has plenty of things to do from outdoor activities to shopping.
Looking for something to do outside? Take a ride on the Glass Bottom Boat! Located on the Texas State campus, you can take the tour for $9 for an adult, seniors $7.50, $6 for children 4-13 and children under three are free.
Take an hour long ride down the San Marcos River on a tube! The San Marcos Lions Club rents out tubes for $10 and is open on the weekends in May. During the months of June, July and August it is open every day from 10 am to 7 pm.
If shopping is your thing, San Marcos is your place. Two outlet malls are side by side with over 240 shops! The two outlet malls are Tanger Outlets and San Marcos Outlets.
The Square is the main attraction in the downtown, with plenty of shops and restaurants in the area.
If you're looking to grab a bite to eat check out Alvin Ord's. This is where I went on my visit and if you like deli sandwiches you can't pass this place up. Try the Salvation sandwich and thank me later. If you're looking for burritos, try Zookas Ultimate Burrito and support a local restaurant. For the pizza lovers Valentino's was recommended to me. For the best beer selection in San Marcos check out the Tap Room.
You can also find several things to do just outside of the city. Lockhart, the heart of Texas BBQ is about 20 minutes away. One of the best water parks in the world, Schiltterbahn is located down 35 in New Braunfels. Up interstate 35 you will find Austin about 30 minutes away.
