Week Zero: College Football Needs It!
By Tyler Smith 8/26/19
Who didn’t enjoy Week Zero? Pat Forde, put your hand down. Week Zero was great! A Rivalry game with plenty of intrigue between Miami and Florida. Hawaii and Arizona came down to the wire. This is what we need! In all honesty, CFB should want week zero because they would own the sports landscape. The ratings for Miami and Florida prove that this will work. I would like to see a few more games added though. Not to where every network has a game on, just one game in each time slot. Perfecto.
Let’s look at this based on the two games we had plus some games that will get washed away in week one that would be worth tuning into.
The Schedule
12 PM Utah State at Wake Forest (ACC Network)
3:30 PM Georgia at Vandy (CBS)
6:00 PM UVA at Pitt (ESPN2)
8:00 PM Florida vs. Miami (ESPN)
10:30 PM Arizona at Hawaii (CBS Sports Network)
Under Consideration
Purdue at Nevada: This is a 9:30 PM Friday night game on CBS Sports Network. Not a bad spot to be in, but could be better. I just elected for a more interesting game featuring Jordan Love.
Ole Miss at Memphis: Noon game on Saturday, with not a ton of competition. This should be the game that everyone will watch but Ohio State is on. (I felt greedy, so I passed on this game.) 3:30 PM start would have been awesome though.
VT at Boston College: It came down to UVA at Pitt or VT at BC. I took UVA at Pitt due to the time slot it is in on Saturday, 7:30 PM. The game is buried amongst bigger games.
Boise State vs. FSU: Yeah, I was going to slot this game at 6 PM. What a day of football that would be! I passed because this is slated to be a primetime game with Oregon and Auburn being the other big-time game for competition. So plenty of eyeballs will see this match-up.
How could you pass on a full slate of College Football?
