Opening Round Predictions 2012

#16 Miss. Valley St. vs. #16 Western Kentucky
The Delta Devils really tested themselevs in the non conference schedule. Which made them a really tough team in the SWAC. 
Western Kentucky had a rough start to the season, their head coach was fired and the season looked to be already ending. The Hilltoppers then put together a run in the Sun Belt tournament and won it all. 

My Pick: Western Kentucky-A young, but talented team will edge the Delta Devils and face Kentucky. 

#16 Lamar vs. #16 Vermont

Lamar coach Pat Knight called out his seniors and they haven't lost yet. 

Vermont is 14-1 in their last 15 games. 

My Pick: Lamar- The Team has responded and are playing at a high level. Player to Watch: Anthony Miles.
#14 BYU vs. #14 Iona
BYU has a great record and played a good schedule. They are lead by Hartsock and Davies. The match-up with Iona will be a high scoring affair, BYU sits at 13th in the nation in points per game and Iona is the number one team in the nation in scoring.
The Gales are guard heavy. Momo Jones made a run with Arizona last year. Scott Machado is a pure PG who is averaging almost 10 assists a game. The x-factor will be Sean Armand if he is on from deep this team will be a tough out. 

My Pick: Iona- I've loved this team from the beginning and I'm sticking with them.  


#12 California vs. #12 South Florida 
The Bears have had a rough end to the season, losing 3 of their last 4. The team will need Gutierrez to step up in the tournament if they want to advance. 
South Florida didn't beat one of the top 4 teams in the Big East. They wont impress on the offensive end, but where they lack on the offensive end they pick up on the defensive side. 

My Pick: Cal- The Bears are better on offenses and have a pretty good defense.
