Trending College Football Teams After Week Seven
By Matt Hetzler
1.) Mississippi State- Well the Bulldogs have left little doubt that they deserve to be #1 in the country. The defense was able to for 4 turnovers and Prescott was able to overcome mistakes of his own. Mississippi State became a real threat in the SEC after that win.
Next Up- BYE- A much needed bye for the Bulldogs after a huge win. After that they travel to Lexington for a showdown with the surprising Wildcats.
2.) Iowa- Iowa continues to improve after the home loss to Iowa State. The Hawkeyes jumped ahead with 28 first quarter points and didn't look back. Iowa now sits at 5-1 and have plenty of winnable games coming up.
Next Up- @Maryland- Iowa will be an underdog heading into Maryland. It's a pretty interesting match-up and should be an exciting game. I like Iowa to keep rolling in the B1G and get closer to a West title.
3.) Eastern Michigan- What a big win for the Eagles last Saturday over Buffalo. EMU has been really bad in the MAC for a long time and this win was a shocker. The defense forced 3 big turnovers and the offense had nearly 500 total yards of offense.
Next Up- @ UMass- Who would've thought that each team would have a MAC win coming into this one? UMass may be too much to handle for the EMU defense.
Kent State- I was dead wrong in my preseason predictions. Kent State is flat out awful sitting at 0-6. Kent State was blown out at home by UMass. I think Kent State may have one winnable game left on the schedule at Miami (OH) but even that is a reach at this point.
Next Up- Army- Kent State hosts Army this weekend and I don't see them holding Army in check on offense. It's going to be tough for them to win this one averaging under 12 point per game.
Buffalo- I was really high on Buffalo coming into the season but after a loss at Eastern Michigan I have to question my pick. Buffalo has looked really good at times but then have questionable losses. The defense is killing the Bulls right now and if it can get fixed the season can be saved.
Next Up- BYE- Buffalo gets a bye before hosting a Central Michigan team that just took down Northern Illinois.
Ball State- There is a theme in my trending down this week. I can't get over some of my preseason MAC picks and how poorly they are performing. Add Ball State to the list who is sitting at 1-5 and 0-2 in the MAC after a home loss to Western Michigan.
Next Up- @ Central Michigan- This is going to be a tough match up for the Cardinals, it appears they will be falling to 1-6 after Saturday.
