Overview
Malik Rosier is back after his first year under center went fairly well. His biggest issue was accuracy, 54 percent completion rate plus 14 interceptions won't keep you around for long if losses start piling up. The Hurricanes are excited about their receiving corps this season. The big reason why is they return Ahmmon Richards from injury. Richards made waves his freshman season and ended up on the freshman All-American team. A newcomer to watch for his Mark Pope. Pope was a top recruit in the 2018 class. They have more talent at WR than any other position. They will be strong at TE too with freshman Bevin Jordan and Michael Irvin II.
The running back unit is skilled with Travis Homer, DeeJay Dallas and Lorenzo Lingard. The line may be the be biggest issue for this team. Three starters return but they aren't first or second team ACC quality. RG Navaughn Donaldson could work his way to that level though.
The defense will feature the top linebacker unit in the country. Shaq Quarterman is the best of the group. Micheal Pinckney is a first team level talent as well. Zach McCloud gets after the QB he had 11 TFLs last season. The secondary is in good hands with 3 returning starters. Safety Jaquan Johnson led the team in tackles and tied for the lead in interceptions with Michael Johnson. The second corner spot is up for grabs. Sophomore Trajan Bandy will see time there but expect to several faces until one grabs the spot.
The line has one starter back and plenty of talent in the other 3 spots. DT Gerald Willis is going to be talked about a lot this season. The other DE spot is open and will likely go to an underclassmen.
The offense has a ton of talent ready to be unleashed. The line needs to be better this season to get all of the potential out of their offensive players. Kicker is an issue as well as they turn to a freshman. The defense is going to be stout. NFL talent all over the field. They miss Clemson and NC State from the Atlantic. If they survive the two game stretch of at VT and GT they will win the division for a second year in a row.

Overview
There was some concern early on about Josh Jackson's eligibility but everything turned out fine. Jackson will be under center to lead the offense with a year under his belt. Jackson did well for a freshman but will be called upon to do more this season. The loss of his top target Cam Phillips will hurt as they don't have a proven player that can rise to the occasion. WR Damon Hazelton comes in from Ball State and will have three years left. He could become that guy.
The running game has been sub-par for awhile now. It doesn't look like this season will be much different. Deeshawn McClease is the top returning back but Steven Peoples is back from injury. The line brings back the whole right side. The left side could see freshman Silas Dzansi starting at left tackle. If he is their first option and doesn't pan out be very concerned.
Virginia Tech is always going to have a great defense. Last season they had one of the best in the country. They allowed just 14.8 ppg. That will be hard to duplicate with the amount of talent that went in the draft. The line will remain in good shape with 3 starters returning. Trevon Hill is a problem at DE. Both DT's will continue to stuff the run. The secondary may have issues but they do bring back strong safety Reggie Floyd who leads the team in tackles and interceptions. He will be joined by Divine Deablo who is back from an injury. Freshman Caleb Farley could see a lot of time at corner this season.
Linebacker is where the biggest hole is. They will likely need a few games to figure out what they really want to do there. ILB Dylan Rivers and Rayshard Ashby are both sophomores that could emerge as starters.
The defense is lacking the experience that they usually have but still have talent to make up for it. The offense looks like it may struggle at times. Josh Jackson has his hands full this season. The schedule starts with a bang as they head to Tallahassee. Win that game and the Hookies can compete for the Coastal title.

Overview
TaQuan Marshall is one of the most exciting players in College Football. He can take over a game whenever he wants to. He led the team in rushing yards and touchdowns last season. He added 10 passing touchdowns which isn't bad for GT QBs. If he can improve just slightly in the passing game this offense will be even more dangerous. This season they bring back every running back including KirVonte Benson who had over 1,000 yards rushing last season.
The line had it's moments last season. They need to take a step forward for this team to breakthrough. They have to be better in pass protection when they go to pass as Marshall got hit often. While Marshall was getting hit last season, he doesn't have great targets to pass to this season. If they can just find one player to throw deep to they will be fine.
The defense played very well vs top opponents. They held Miami and Clemson to a combined 49 points. However they struggled vs some of the lesser opponents and got destroyed by Georgia to end the season. That led to new DC Nate Woody being brought in. Woody had great defenses at App State. He doesn't have a ton to work with this year though but his style of defense is welcomed in Atlanta. The front seven returns 5 starters. Victor Alexander is the teams best player and should thrive in his new role. He leads the team in tackles with 70. They need someone on the line to emerge as a threat to get to the QB. Both DE's return but neither of them had over 3 sacks last year.
The secondary is weak with one starter back. They weren't able to force many turnovers last season which is what GT needs to do. If they can force the ball back to the offense that gives GT a massive advantage. With more pressure you should see more opportunities. The corner everyone wants to see is red shirt freshman Tre Swilling. Swilling was one of the top recruits from 2017. They actually had three, 4 star players DBs in that class.
This teams has the potential to challenge Miami if the defense can make strides. As long as Marshall is under center the offense will be explosive. They draw Miami and Clemson at home this season for an upset opportunity.

Overview
Daniel Jones is back under center for Duke. I know you have heard the hype train that surrounds him but his numbers last season weren't all that great. 11 picks to just 14 TDs and a completion percentage at 56. He will have to work through those issues for Duke to become bowl eligible. The line in front of him may have a had a lot to do with his struggles. I don't see that improving this season if the right side which will likely be manned by two sophomores doesn't improve.
They are fine at WR with 3 starters back including last season's top pass catcher T.J. Rahming. They didn't find the end zone very often though. Running back should be in good hands with sophomore Brittain Brown being the featured back. If the line improves these guys will get a chance to shine.
The defense is going to be great again. Last season they allowed just 20.2 ppg. The linebackers are a top 5 unit in the ACC. Ben Humphreys and Joe Giles-Harris combined for 195 tackles last season. Giles-Harris is the teams top returning leader in sacks and tackles for loss. Humphreys had 9 TFL. The line brings back three starters but they need to apply more pressure this season. Two sophomore DE that could help in that department are Drew Jordan and Victor Dimukeje.
The secondary was elite last year. They have two starters back one of them being Mark Gilbert who is one of the best corners in the ACC. He had 6 interceptions last season.
Duke needs the O-line to be better this season or they will be floating around 6 wins. The defense has potential to be very strong again this season. The first 6 games will be telling as the non-conf slate is challenging. They survive those with a .500 record and they have a great chance at a bowl game.

Overview
The Cavaliers bring in two new QBs to run Bronco Mendenhall's system. The battle will be between JUCO transfer Bryce Perkins and freshman Brennan Armstrong. This season is all about finding the QB of the future. Whomever is under center will be looking for WR Olamide Zaccheaus. His 85 catches led the team last year. UVA fans should have mixed feelings on RB Jordan Ellis. Ellis had 215 rushing attempts last season but wasn't able to average over 4 yards per carry. I could see things turning around for him if the line wasn't in such bad shape. They bring in Rutgers grad transfer, Marcus Applefield, to take over at LT. While he is a nice addition he doesn't solve many other issues on the line.
With so much talent departing it is hard to see this defense improving. A step back this season is expected. They still have some good players throughout the roster though. Linebacker Jordan Mack was third in tackles last year with 114. He will be joined by fellow starter Chris Peace. The secondary looks to be the strength of the team with three of four starters back plus transfer Tim Harris at corner. Both starting safeties had four interceptions last season.
The line has promise with Eli Hanback at NT. The departure of Andrew Brown leaves questions at DE. Mandy Alonso had some moments as a freshman and will see a lot of time this season at DE.
UVA made it to their first bowl game in a cats age. This team may not make it back to one this season but they will be in a good position to next year. The defense has a lot of positives. The offense seems like a big question mark all around.

Overview
All eyes are on Kenny Pickett and what he can do after limited action as a freshman. While he showed a lot of promise, the O-line and receiving corps are near the bottom of the ACC. The line has two starters back and add grad transfer Stefano Millin. Millin's performance will have a major factor on how well this offense can perform. Pickett will need the line to take major strides and he will need to find a couple top targets at receiver. Pnly one player returns that had 40 or more catches, Rafael Araujo-Lopes. They don't have a lot of talent at the position that you could bank on one player being the next top receiver.
The running game is the most talented unit on the team. Darrian Hall and Quadree Ollison are in their final season and have something to prove. The offense struggled last season even with them. They both have something to prove, you just have to rely on that O-line.
The defense made a lot of progress last season. With 7 starters back you can see this team being about the same. their top players is OLB Oluwaseun Idowu. He led the team in tackles and sacks. With the other two starters back at linebacker this is easily the strongest unit on the team. They will be tough up front too. Shane Roy is back at DT and DE Dewanye Hendrix should have a great final season in a Putt uniform.
The secondary has some issues but they bring in talent. If underclassmen Paris Ford and Damar Hamlin can fit right in they will take this defense to another level.
The offense has too many questions to be confident in moving this team much higher than I have them ranked. The front seven on defense are very strong. If the secondary can just be average to above average the defense could carry this team to a bowl game.

Overview
If you would have told me that Larry Fedora would have a team average 26 ppg in a season, I wouldn't believe you. It doesn't look much better for him this season. Chazz Surratt played in 9 games as a freshman. He never had a game with over 300 yards passing. That will have to change in Fedora's system or they will have to move on from him. The running game was poor as well last year. Jordon Brown returns as the starter but Micheal Carter made some noise with just 97 carries. They will be running behind a poor O-line which will hold them back. The offensive line is the biggest concern for the Tar Heels. Hard to see this team having a shot with the lines current state.
UNC couldn't stop the run last year, ranking 113th in the nation. The line was poor last season, they take a hit at linebacker which makes it hard to see much improvement vs the run. They do have Cole Holcomb returning, without him on this years team they would have no hope. The secondary isn't going to be much better this season either. K.J. Sails showed a lot of promise last season though. His progression has been important. Safety Miles Dorn played as a freshman and now enters his junior year. He was third in tackles last season.
Is Gene Chizik walking through that door? No he isn't therefore I don't see progression from this years Tar Heel defense. The offense has major line issues which have affected everything Larry Fedora is trying to do. I have them at 2 wins. 5 is the max win total for this team though. Bye Larry.

Overview
Six starters return including QB Kelly Bryant. Bryant took his lumps last year but he also did what was needed of him. Bryant will be asked to do more this season. While freshman Trevor Lawrence is highly regarded, I wouldn't look for him to get a ton action unless Bryant fails. He has the receivers to be successful too. Hunter Renfrow is back for his final season. He will be joined by two talented sophomores, Tee Higgins and Amari Rodgers. Higgins is the next big thing at WR for Clemson.
The running game will be strong with a line that has top tier talent throughout. They are at the point now that they just reload on the line. The running backs are top notch. Travis Etienne and Tavien Feaster will have their way on ACC defenses this season.
If you haven't heard about Clemson's D-line you probably have been in Antarctica for a year. Clelin Ferrell, Dexter Lawrence, Christian Wilkins and Austin Bryant are all first round talents. They could make up an All-American list themselves that is how good these guys are. Even if the Tigers didn't return any other player on defense they would still have the best defense. They do however return 4 other starters. They are strong at both the secondary and linebacker units too.
Linebacker Kendall Joseph leads the team in tackles. The lone newcomer to the linebacking unit is Isaiah Simmons. The sophomore saw some time last year. The secondary has depth concerns but they are strong on the front line. Trayvon Mullen is the best player in the unit. He returns after 3 interceptions last season.
This defense is going to be special. One that College Football fans talk about forever. The offense will be strong too with talent oozing all over the field. The schedule is set up for an undefeated season. They have an easy path to the playoff.

Overview
After a great 2017 campaign Ryan Finley is back for one final season. Finley threw for over 3,500 yards, 17 scores and completed 65 percent of his passes. Expect more of the same this season with a talented receiving corps. Both Kelvin Harmon and Jakobi Meyers had over 60 catches last season. They combined for 9 scores as well. Add in Stephen Louis who is a deep ball threat and you have the best group in the ACC.
The line losses the right side but they slide in two players who have talent and experience. A lot of concern has surrounded the line but I don't see the big issue. All three returning starters will earn accolades this season. They will make things easy for the weakest unit on the offense, RB. Reggie Gallaspy will get a shot to finally put in a full season. The excitement is around freshman Ricky Person. He could emerge as the star RB this season.
The defense lost a lot of talent. The biggest issue is depth. The majority of the 2nd unit hasn't seen a lot of the field. The line should continue to be strong with Shug Frazier and Eurandraus Bryant at DT. Grant Gibson is one of the more talented lineman they have brought in so he will fit into the rotation. Another young player to watch is DE Ibrahim Kante. His emergence is much needed.
All three returning starters are in the secondary. A secondary that got torched last season. Look for a big improvement here with teams looking to run more often. They also bring in Tennessee transfer Stephen Griffin which will be a welcomed addition. Junior corner Nick McCloud had 7 PBU last season.
Linebacker has me concerned. Sophomore Louis Acceus will be in the middle and senior Germaine Pratt will get his shot at OLB. Pratt has the experience but will be asked to do more this season.
A lot of folks are having a down year for NC State. Last season I was the only believer and this year is no different! The Pack will not fall back this season. With the passing attack they have it will be hard for many teams to keep up. The defense is better than it looks on paper. The schedule is very friendly with just two tough road games in conference.

Overview
Not much went right for the Seminoles once Deondre Francois suffered an injury in game one. The biggest question heading into this season is who will be under center for new HC Willie Taggart. Both players have an equal amount of experience. This decision will come down to the wire.
The skill spots are strong with RB Cam Akers and WR Nyqwan Murray. The 'Noles will need to show that their WR talent can live up to the hype. For this offense to work they will need to be a strong threat in the passing game something they weren't last year. The running game will thrive with Cam Akers. The issue upfront is while they are talented, they were not brought in to run the current scheme. Their transition will be crucial.
The defense lived up to their billing last season. They allowed just 21 points despite the poor offensive production. Only 3 starters are back for FSU though. The front seven has questions but of course they back that up with talented options. With all three linebackers gone that doesn't translate well. Keep an eye on linebacker DeCalon Brooks who will be in the star role. Dontavius Jackson will be at MLB. His production will be a large part of this transition. The line has the talent, two sophomores could earn starting spot Marvin Wilson and Joshua Kaindoh. Both are former five stars. They have four year starter Demarcus Christmas back at DT. DE Brian Burns is the team leader in tackles and sacks.
The secondary could see a trio of sophomores plus returning starter Levonta Taylor. It will be hard to duplicate what they were able to do last season but with Taylor and Stanford Samuels at corner they have a chance. Safety is going to be a position to watch all year. If they don't develop throughout the season they could be in search for some new safeties next year.
The offense of course has talented but the transition from last years offense to this year could hold them up. Questions at QB don't build a ton of confidence with me either. The defense while in the midst of a youth movement should be solid. The schedule is unforgiving. They face VT to start the year, draw Notre Dame and have Florida to end the season. They also have to face NC State and Miami on the road. While I have them down this season, I see a bounce back in the works next season.

Overview
No Lamar Jackson, no problem? I wouldn't go that far but some seem to be thinking that. Jawon Pass has the size and the arm but we haven't seem him in much meaningful football. He will have the benefit of passing to one of the best WR/TE units in the ACC. Jaylen Smith is capable of taking over games. He went over 100 yards four times last season. The running game is a major question mark, the Cardinals lost their top 3 running threats. Dae Williams and Colin Wilson will get their chance to shine this fall. They will be running behind a line that brings back experience. Four starters are back plus a senior at LT.
The defense was not great last season. Two games, Kent State and Murray State make their numbers look better than they were. Things may get worse this season as they only bring back two starters. This unit by the end of the season should be full of freshman and sophomores. The teams top player is sophomore Dorian Ethridge. He had 83 tackles last season and gives this team something to build around. Another sophomore that started last season was Russ Yeast. His ability to get better this season will be a good sign moving forward. They bring back a stud on the defensive line in Jon Greenard. He led the team in sacks and TFLs. This team has some pieces but overall they aren't a complete unit just yet.
If Pass can live up to the billing in year one under center that would keep the pressure off the defense which will need it. The D is going to be a work in progress this year. Giving up around 30 ppg is not out of the question. They do have the benefit of an easy start outside of Alabama. The game in late September vs. FSU will be the gauge of how far this team will go.

Overview
I am still not sure how Wake Forest managed to go from 20 ppg to 35 last season but they did. I ripped John Wolford last season. If he was coming back this season I would give him praise but he is not. Kendall Hinton will likely be under center week one. If the staff can not force Hinton into do things he isn't capable, they could be middle of the road on offense. If they don't work to his strengths it could get ugly. The good news is all the pieces surrounding him have experience. The line is a top 5 unit. WR is strong with Greg Dortch and Scotty Washington back. Running back Matt Colburn has been the feature back the past two seasons. This is the year he goes over 1,000 yards.
Oddly enough as the offense got much better, the defense struggled. They had a four game stretch of giving up 30 or more points and ended the season by giving up 52 points. This years team might be the weakest they have had in awhile. Linebacker does not look good. They bring back one starter, Demetrius Kemp. Being a MLB and only having 63 tackles can't happen. The line may struggle, even with both DTs back. DE will be the position to watch early this year. If they can find at least one they should be in good shape. Secondary has the most talent with Essang Bassey at corner and Cameron Glenn at safety but that won't be enough to flip this defense to a positive.
Too many major concerns across the board to have this team much better than 6-6. As much as they improved on offense last season, a step back is bound to happen this year. October will be a brutal stretch for them as they face Clemson, FSU and Louisville.

Overview
If this team wants to emerge from a 7-6 record year after year they need the offense to score points. Last season they only scored 25.7 ppg. You would think with a stud O-line and AJ Dillion back at RB, they could do that. We will see though. QB Anthony Brown will have a lot to do with that. Brown completed just 51.9 percent of his passes. They were only gaining 5.3 yards per attempt. If he doesn't improve, this team won't improve. He doesn't have many weapons in the passing game which doesn't help. He does however have one of the best RB in the game. AJ Dillon went for nearly 1,600 yards last season. He had 300 carries though so will he be able to do that one more year? I don't know. They do have the best O-line in the ACC though.
Another strong year for the defense is in the books. You will see more of the same this season with 6 starters back. The D-line has potential to be great. DE Zach Allen was a machine last year with over 100 tackles, 6 sacks and 15.5 TFLs. They should feel good about DT Ray Smith and Tanner Karafa. Smith had 59 tackles last year.
The Eagles missed SLB Conner Strachan last season due to injury. His return elevates this defense. John Lamot was good as a freshman MLB last year. The secondary is strong at safety and weak at corner. Safety Lukas Denis led the team in interceptions with 7. You may see several freshman take the field at corner this year.
I can't stress enough how important Anthony Brown is to this team. Many think this team could go as high as third. I am not seeing it. The defense makes things tempting but you can't overlook their scoring from last season. What really should keep you away is their schedule. They draw Miami and VT from the Coastal. How do you overlook that?

Overview
By now everyone knows who Eric Dungey is. The Syracuse QB accounted for 23 scores last season. He did have 9 interceptions and a completion percentage under 60 too. He is going to have to raise his game for this team to meet expectations that seem to be unrealistic. He will be without his top targets from last season which will make things more difficult. Their top returning WR had 33 catches last season. They are very young at WR this season so I am sure Dungey will find a new top target. The running game isn't all that great once you get past Dungey. They have to see RB Dontae Strickland improve this year or they will move off of him.
The one unit that you could see a lot of improvement from is O-line. They bring back four starters and add Texas A&M transfer, Koda Martin.
How far this defense can progress will determine whether or not this team makes a bowl game. They gave up 32.2 ppg. They haven't held teams to under 30 ppg in a season since 2014. This year you will likely see them over 30 again. They must replace all three linebackers. They are my worst LB unit in the ACC. The secondary isn't much better despite bringing back 3 junior starters. They have several underclassmen right behind them if things go awry.
What they have on the front four might be the best overall line they have had in awhile. Chris Salyton will get looks by NFL teams. DE Kendall Coleman and Alton Robinson should emerge as major threats. Robinson had 5 sacks last season.
I don't get the hype that surrounds Syracuse. Eric Dungey isn't a Heisman contender. Dino Babers isn't all that either. The defense is still poor. It will be another poor season in the Carrier Dome.
